Do you support or oppose the Independent Redistricting Commission and Standards Act that Utah voters approved in 2018? Please explain your reasoning.
I strongly approve of Prop. 4! There should be no political gerrymandering in Utah FULL STOP!
What should happen when the legislature disagrees with a map the commission produces, and what would you do in that situation?
As long as the law and spirit of Prop. 4 was followed I would align with the independent commission, and would work to persuade my colleagues.
Do you support Utah's vote-by-mail system as it stands?
Yes, I strongly support vote-by-mail. We should do everything we can to make voting easier for Utah's working families.
What would you do to encourage more people to vote who currently don't vote?
I would show them results that when the working class organizes the impossible becomes possible. I would make it a community event that highlights the joy of voting.
Utah voters can put questions on the ballot through citizen initiatives and referenda. Should the threshold for passing them be changed? Why or why not?
No, it should not. It should be easier to but a question on to the ballot. The republican supermajority has insulated itself rom the voters by gerrymandering the map to an inch of its life, that means often the only relief valve for the citizens of Utah is the initiative process.
What do you see as the relationship between transparency and corruption?
A direct connection between the two. We need more transparency up on Capital hill to regain the trust of the voters! Lawmakers that are voting on issues that will directly benefit them, their families, or their employers should recuse themselves from the vote.
Does Utah's GRAMA support the public's right to know, or does it need strengthening? Or is it too stringent?
Yes, Grama needs to be strengthened to bring more sunlight to the governing process up on Capital Hill. For far to long the Utah's republican leadership has tried to shroud their decision making process in darkness.
Describe a specific action you would take in office to make sure every person in your district has equal access to government services and equal protection under the law, regardless of citizenship status.
I will provide my cell number, my email, and my socials so any constituent can reach out with any concerns about accessing services. If there are impediments then I would investigate those, and would work to resolve those issues. If new laws need to be introduced to make services better available to all then then I would fill such bills.
Is there anything else you think is relevant that our questions did not reach?
It is time for one party rule to end in Utah. One party rule for the last thirty years has fostered corruption.
